KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A report in The Kansas City (Mo.) Star alleges continued problems with animal abuse and retribution against whistleblower meat inspectors who report problems.

The news report cites a government audit that found meat inspectors inconsistently enforce humane slaughter rules. The author, Mike McGraw, wrote a series of articles called Beef's Raw Edges, which cast a less-than-flattering eye on industry production practices.
