MCLEAN, Va. – The Foundation of the Meat Industry Suppliers Alliance (MISA) awarded scholarships to four university students.

MISA, an industry council of the Food Processing Suppliers Association, announced the three winners of the $5,000 MISA Scholarships and the winner of the MISA $10,000 Scholarship. Each year in March, the MISA Foundation holds a fundraiser in conjunction with the FPSA Annual Conference. At the 2013 MISA Foundation dinner and auction more than $70,000 was raised from conference attendees.

The winners of the $5,000 scholarships are:

• Erin Karney, Colorado State Univ., pursuing a Master’s Degree in Animal Sciences;
• Jennifer Martin, Texas Tech Univ., pursuing a Ph.D. in Animal Science with an emphasis on Meat Science; and
• Megan McMurray, Auburn Univ., pursuing a Master’s of Science in Meat Science.
The winner of the $10,000 scholarship is Loni Woolley, a student at Texas Tech Univ. who is pursuing a Master of Science in Meat Science.

“Once again we had an outstanding group of candidates applying for the Foundation’s scholarships, and selecting only four winners from an applicant list totaling over forty proved to be quite a challenge,” said Tom Hoffmann, MISA Foundation chairman. “These students are the future of our industry, and the Foundation is pleased to help secure that future by providing these scholarships.”

The application period for the 2014 MISA scholarship program will begin in January. Applications will be available at www.FPSA.org/meat-industry-suppliers-alliance-misa.
