PROVIDENCE, RI – Daniele International received a $33 million judgment in a lawsuit against a Brooklyn, NY-based spice company involved in a salami recall, according to local news reports.
Daniele International recalled 1.2 million lbs. of salami products after a Salmonella Montevideo outbreak sickened 252 people in 44 states and the District of Columbia. Health officials traced the outbreak source to pepper the company bought from Brooklyn, NY-based Wholesome Spice and Seasonings and Mincing Overseas Spice Co. in Dayton, NJ.
Daniele International sued Wholesome Spice for failed response to the recall.
