SPRINGDALE, Ark. – Tyson Foods, Inc. announced the appointment of Michael Turley as its new vice president and general manager of the Government Business Unit responsible for operations, sales and marketing for its K-12 school and corrections business segments. Turley comes to Tyson with more than 17 years of experience in the foodservice industry.
One of Tyson’s continued top priorities is the company’s support of school nutrition by providing convenient products kids enjoy that also meet the nutritional requirements of the Food and Nutrition Service of the US Department of Agriculture. The company’s school menu items are lower in sodium and use lean meats and whole-grain ingredients for breading. Tyson’s school menu items also contain zero grams of trans fat per serving.
“The company’s commitment to school foodservice is evident because it has teamed up with several school districts to provide students with commercially inspired and nutritious menus while also promoting eating healthy meals in the cafeteria,” Turley said.
Turley also announced that through the company’s corporate Hunger Relief efforts, Tyson will be donating more than 375,000 lbs. of Spicy Orange Chicken, one of its K-12 products, to nine food banks in eight US communities this week. Food will be donated at:
• Feeding South Florida, Pembroke Park, Fla.
• Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, Orlando, Fla.
• Los Angeles Regional Food Bank
• City Harvest New York City
• Food Bank for New York City
• Capital Area Food Bank of Texas, Austin
• Houston Food Bank, Houston
• Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan, Detroit, Mich.
• Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank, Comstock Park
Tyson Foods has donated more than 86 million pounds of protein, or the equivalent of 344 million meals over the past decade. The company partners with Food Research and Action Center, Feeding America, Share Our Strength, Lift Up America and the League of United Latin American Citizens to raise awareness and help feed the hungry across the nation.
