AMI to hold LFTB Summit at expo

WASHINGTON – An education session focusing on the production of lean finely textured beef (LFTB) has been added to the agenda of the American Meat Institute’s International Meat, Poultry & Seafood Industry Convention and Expo, next month. The session is scheduled for May 1, from 10 a.m. to noon.
The session, Lean Finely Textured Beef Summit, will include industry leaders who will discuss key issues surrounding the topic and their implications for the future of the industry. The LFTB Summit will address the economic impact of the controversy on beef demand and markets, the science behind the product and potential regulatory implications. The session will end with a discussion of the impact of media coverage on the meat and poultry industry.
Scheduled speakers include Janet Riley, AMI’s senior vice president of public affairs and professional development; Ron Plain, Ph.D., professor of agricultural economics at the Univ. of Missouri-Columbia; Robert Hibbert, law partner at K&L Gates; and Jim Dickson, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at Iowa State Univ.
