Wright steps down from Smithfield's BOD

SMITHFIELD, Va. – After serving on the board of directors with Smithfield Foods Inc. since 2000, Melvin O. Wright has resigned that position. A former advisor to PrimeCorp Finance and a senior executive with Dean Witter Reynolds, Wright served as chairman of the Pension and Investment Committee, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Committee.

He is now listed as the third director emeritus on Smithfield’s website.
