AMI announces promotion and new hire

WASHINGTON – Dale Nellor, The American Meat Institute’s vice president of legislative affairs, has been promoted to senior vice president of legislative affairs. AMI also named Josh Gifford, a Capitol Hill veteran, director of legislative affairs.
Nellor joined AMI in February 2006 and has served as the director and vice president of AMI’s legislative affairs department. His responsibilities include lobbying congress on agricultural, structural, food safety, trade, energy, labor and worker-safety issues.
Before joining AMI, he worked for more than three years as a legislative assistant to US Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.). His responsibilities as a principle advisor to Hagel focused on all agricultural issues, energy, rural development, natural resources and related appropriations policy.
Nellor also served as a policy consultant for the Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation. Prior to that, Nellor served as a campaign manager and as an agricultural policy consultant for several campaigns for seats in the US House of Representatives.
“Dale has been an asset to AMI throughout the past five years – with a Nebraska detour to help Ag Secretary Johanns win his Senate seat,” said Patrick Boyle, AMI president. “His leadership abilities and political know-how make him well-suited to take on these additional responsibilities.”
Gifford worked as the senior legislative assistant to Congressman Allen Boyd for five years. He handled the Congressman’s appropriations committee work, as well as the agriculture, environment, resources, energy, transportation and technology issues. He has also worked on several House of Representative campaigns as a field organizer. Gifford was raised in rural Southern Utah and Nevada and received his BA in political science/history at the Univ. of Rochester.
