Mexico ends Tar Heel, N.C. pork-plant ban

TAR HEEL, N.C. – Mexico, the second-largest importer of U.S. pork that banned pork from Smithfield Foods Inc.’s Tar Heel, N.C. plant on Aug. 13, has lifted the ban, according to Bloomberg.

Shipments from the plant were eligible for export to Mexico after Sept. 12, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said.
