Squeez Bacon is no joke

KANSAS CITY, MO. — On April 1 (April Fool’s Day) several stories surfaced on the Internet about Vilhelm Lillefläsk’s Squeez Bacon from Sweden, which is described as a fully cooked, 100% bacon paste that can be squeezed from a tube or plastic bottle. Apparently, this is a legitimate product and not an April Fool’s Day prank as some may have suspected.
As the story goes, a young Swedish restaurant worker named Vilhelm Lillefläsk developed this product in the 1940s. Word has it an American version of the product is now available in the U.S., and it’s made from fully cooked bacon by a patented electro-mechanical process. It contains no preservatives or additives.
As for what this product can be placed on or in, anything goes, according to the processing company, which is reportedly still headed by the product’s inventor, Mr. Lillefläsk.
"I think there will be extreme interest, depending on taste, of course, from retailers," Jarrod Sutton, director of retail marketing with the National Pork Board, told MEATPOULTRY.com. "A shelf-stable bacon spread? — what a concept. Retailers are always looking for new items that play off of a base success, which bacon certainly has. This new item could be a great addition to the bacon category."
