Functional food webinar to address opportunities

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. — Scientia Advisors will hold a free webinar Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. eastern standard time titled "Drivers of success in functional foods." Bob Jones, a principal consultant with Scientia Advisors, will discuss successful product strategies for the functional foods marketplace.
Topics to be discussed during the webinar include:
• A comparison of successful functional food product launches vs. unsuccessful introductions;
• Factors that are drivers for success in functional food launches;
• Consumer attitudes toward functional foods; and
• The unmet needs and technical hurdles that still need to be addressed in the functional food marketplace.
The webinar follows the release of a report issued by Scientia Advisors this past December that forecast robust growth in the functional foods market worldwide. Specifically, Scientia said it is anticipating an annual compound growth rate of 7% through 2012 averaged across all segments of the industry. Global sales of functional foods will rise to $195 billion by 2012, up 52% from 2006 sales of $128 billion, according to the research firm.
