The Maple Bac’n QuikShake has returned to QuikTrip’s QT Kitchens’ menu for a limited-time. The frosted treat is made with a vanilla shake, maple syrup and strips of crumbled bacon mixed together.

Convenience stores like QuikTrip are moving beyond gasoline and basic snacks. A 2014 report from market research firm Technomic and Chute Gerdeman, a retail innovation, insights and design firm, found that convenience stores like QuikTrip are focusing on offering a greater variety of fresh prepared foods in a foodservice-type design.

Lynn Rosenbaum of Chute Gerdeman said, “As convenience stores see increased cross-category competition with both retail and foodservice providers, it’s important to understand what is driving consumers into the store and keep them coming back. The environment and experience are key to building brand loyalty...”

Technomic’s 2014 Convenience Store Market Intelligence Report found that c-store foodservice represents a $10.9 billion industry.
