In lieu of the same old candy and flowers, the National Pork Board brought the meat to creative Valentine wannabes. One week before the holiday, the NPB posted a short-and-sweet You Tube instructional video titled: “How to make the perfect bacon rose.”

The instructions seem almost as easy as ordering flowers:

- Unwrap bacon
- Roll the bacon lengthwise into a bud
- Insert two toothpicks to keep the bud’s shape
- Place the buds on a wire rack over a foil-lined sheet pan
- Bake at 400°F for 30 minutes
- Remove toothpicks and secure the bud to a plastic stem
