Micreos products include LISTEX™, a natural phage used globally by food processing companies against Listeria in meat, cheese, fish, and other food products. LISTEX™ was the first phage product which was approved by the FDA as GRAS in 2006, and by the USDA in 2007. Many other authorities have since confirmed its safety, including EFSA, Health Canada , BAG (Switzerland ) and FSANZ (Food Standards Australia New Zealand).
SALMONELEX™, a recently introduced Micreos product, is also approved as a “GRAS” food processing aid against Salmonella. According to a report published in December 2013 by the FSIS, SALMONELEX is seen as a very elegant solution, targeting only Salmonella and has no other effect on the treated food product, neither in taste, nor texture.
Dirk de Meester, Micreos business development director says, “Research shows that SALMONELEX does not dissipate in the presence of protein as chemicals do. Thus, the product enables processors to reduce the use of chemicals and reach Salmonella in places where antimicrobial chemicals are ineffective, for example in follicles which close when exposed to cold water in a chiller.”
